Goals of Anytown: The goals of Anytown are: (i) teaching young people to overcome prejudice and discrimination by instilling a sense of self-worth; (ii) fostering meaningful interaction between and among youth of various backgrounds; and (ii) cultivating usable skills that will enable young people to create positive change in their own actions and attitudes and become change agents in their own environments. In essence, Anytown prepares young people for the increasingly diverse society in which we live.

Anytown Program Objectives: (i) To learn about prejudices and discrimination and their effects on ourselves and others within our society; (ii) To achieve greater understanding and respect for oneself and others through interaction with persons of different religions, races and cultures; (iii) To develop a positive self-esteem and the leadership skills necessary to help solve individual, family, and group problems in human relations; and (iv) To strengthen responsible citizenship and purpose in our homes, schools, churches, synagogues, community and nation.

General Information: Each delegate is assigned to a same-sex cabin. College-age counselors supervise the cabins. Counselors undergo comprehensive training in group dynamics, conflict resolution, and managing diversity. All counselors are former Anytown delegates. Workshops are offered each day by the advisors (who supervise the program) and invited guests. Workshops cover a broad base of concerns and issues relevant to the delegates. Discussion groups, led by counselors and advisors, meet each day. The groups discuss the assigned themes and other topics of interest.

Program Overview: Each day at Anytown has a theme and every Anytown in the United States follows the same daily pattern--with variations made to fit the locale. The themes constitute a weeklong program that builds on consistency of format but a diversity of topics.
